Wine

Karanto began producing wine under the Karanto Vineyards label in 2002 with the production at Matilda Plains Winery of a small parcel of Shiraz from our best blocks, and each year since we have continued to source small amounts of our best fruit for this wine.

Our first shiraz, the 2002 vintage, was awarded 5 stars and top of class by Winestate Magazine and the following vintage, the 2003, was judged champion wine of the 2006 Langhorne Creek Wine Showcase. The 2004 7A Shiraz followed with quite a few awards, topping off with also winning Champion Wine of the Show and top of the Shiraz Class at the 2008 Langhorne Creek Wine Showcase.

In 2006 we added a Pinot Grigio to our range and we are experimenting with Italian varietals Aglianico and Primitivo (red) and Fiano and Greco di Tufo (white). Our first batch of Aglicanico was made from the 2007 vintage and is now selling well.  Pinot Grigio 2008 and  Fiano 2008 are now new releases while the Greco di Tufo and Primitivo will be released  in 2009.

Former Australian Young Winemaker of the Year, Briony Hoare now oversees the production of our wines.
